What are my living arrangements like at camp?
As a counselor at Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village, you live in a bunk area with 10-12 children and 2-4 other staff members. Our bunk areas are newly renovated and bathrooms are inside the cabins.
When does camp begin?
Camp begins June 20, 2010 with a staff orientation. Campers arrive June 27th. and leave August 15th. Your last day is August 16th.
Will I have access to the Internet and telephone?
Internet Access and telephones are available in the staff lounge. Wifi is also available in many parts of camp. Mobile phones get little to no reception on camp property.
Can I bring my car to camp?
Counselors over 18 with valid driver’s licenses are encouraged to bring vehicles to camp. Cars must stay in the staff parking area and cannot be driven through camp.
Do we get days off during the summer?
Our staff receive 5 days off a summer (one day a week excluding the first and last week of camp.)
Are we allowed to leave camp at night?
Once you have completed a daily log and your bunk lights are off, you are free to sign out and leave camp property. Camp has an established curfew/sign in policy and we require all staff to sign in at that set time once back on camp property. You will also be asked to sit OD (on duty) on a rotating cycle. OD means you remain in the bunk area after lights out and supervise the division with other OD’s in your group. We bring our OD snack and games whenever possible.
Are there staff rewards?
YES! We reward our staff whenever possible. Those counselors that go above the call of duty are rewarded daily with extra days off, camp gear, nights off OD, and other perks and benefits.
Do I get periods off at camp?
YES! We realize the importance of unwinding and recharging your batteries. You should expect periods off on non-trip days and days when no counselors are off.
Are there any special programs or activities for staff?
Absolutely! We believe that our counselor’s happiness is the key to our camper’s success. Throughout the summer, we offer inter-camp staff sports, pizza parties, pool parties and campfires for our staff.
How do you determine the age group I will work with?
Our camp is split into two sides. Camp Poyntelle is for kids entering grades 2-7, and Lewis Village is for teens entering grades 8-11. Depending on your experiences and qualifications, you will be placed at one of those two sides.
Where is camp located?
We are located in Poyntelle, P.A. approximately 1 hour from Binghamton, NY & Scranton, PA and less than 150 miles from New York City. We are in a very rural area with fresh air and beautiful skies.
How many kids attend Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village?
Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village serves roughly 375 campers per summer.
What is the Jewish Experience like at camp?
Our Jewish Experience stresses cultural understanding and strongly emphasizes Jewish values. Our kitchen is kosher and one of our favorites times of the week is when we celebrate Shabbat together as a community.
Where does your staff come from?
Our eclectic staff come from all over both the United States and the world including countries like England, Israel, Australia, South Africa and many more.
Where do your campers come from?
The majority of our camper population lives in the metropolitan New York Area.
Can camp fulfill any of my college requirements?
Actually, yes! If you are currently pursuing a degree in Social Work or Jewish Studies, we would be happy to sponsor an internship for college credits.
Can my friend come to camp?
We are always looking for talented staff to lead our campers. If you know anyone interested in working at camp with you, have him or her fill in an
application online. If they indicate you as a referral, you will receive an additional $50 on your paycheck for each staff member you send us!
